Seabed Mining (SBM) and Deep Sea Mining (DSM) are relatively new mineral retrieval processes that seek to investigate and recover the rich deposits found on the ocean floor. Alluvial or Placer Mining goes back a lot further and involves the mining of stream beds for precious metal deposits.
Research shows that there are a variety of resources to be extracted using SBM and DSM, including nickel, copper, lead, zinc and platinum, often in higher concentrations than are found in terrestrial mines.
WaveWalker 1 can provide a wealth of support to those involved in the mining industry at sea or along coastlines. Specifically designed to operate independently in challenging conditions, our 8-legged, self-contained walking platform can operate bidirectionally whilst elevated. This means that work can continue, regardless of weather and tidal conditions, reducing the project schedule, risk and cost.
👷 It has been brilliant to see the local community taking a real interest in the WaveWalker. With the foundations of the new sea wall now in place, we look forward to continuing with our work to provide improved resilience for the railway line for generations to come.
